An Epic Road Trip for our VIP Guests

By Five had the pleasure of hosting three wonderful guests in the Wimmera last week from the Centre for Community Child Health and Royal Children's Hospital - Professor Sharon Goldfeld, Associate Professor Gehan Roberts, and Julia Mayes.

Their mission? Immerse themselves in the Wimmera!

The banks of the Wimmera River at Dimboola provided the perfect welcoming backdrop for an evening spent with local stakeholders, professionals, parents and friends of By Five celebrating the unique beauty of our region and talking early years advocacy.

The following day kicked off with a visit to Jeparit Primary School. We had a great school tour and discussion around how it is ‘so much more than a school’ to the Jeparit community. Our special guests were inspired by principal and community leader - Craig - and his team.

Next on the road trip was Harrow Bush Nursing Centre, where staff Ann and Jo were joined by West Wimmera Maternal Child Health staff and some incredibly passionate local mothers, to discuss access to antenatal care, continuity of care, and barriers and opportunities to leveraging local assets on the ground.

On the road again, the team were treated to the delightful children and staff at Goroke Early Learning Centre, witnessing first-hand the amazing little locals and dedicated professionals we have in the region.

Finally, it was coffee and a chat with a few more of our legendary locals before jumping on the afternoon bus back to Melbourne - the team certainly covered some Kms!

We feel incredibly fortunate that Sharon, Gehan and Julia will return to Melbourne with the memories and stories of our local communities, places and people to inform the important work they do.
